When LaParlière arrived in California
in 1986 painted furniture was basically unheard of - it
certainly wasn't a trendy item. She was one of the precursors and
perhaps, according to
1995 Victorian Magazine, the one to establish the concept of an entire
scene on furniture,
what LaParlière coins "artwork on furniture."
Maryvonne LaParlière has specialized in painted furniture for
many years. From mere
decoration with scrollwork, floral designs, and designs of the past
centuries, to complete
sceneries, as one would normally expect in a framed painting, LaParlière
is comfortable and
adept at painting in this 3 dimensional form. |
